Saint-Emilion.

85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

The history of Château Moulin Saint-Georges is closely linked to that of Château Ausone since the property also belongs to the Vauthier family. It was acquired much earlier than the Premier Grand Cru Classé A since it dates back to 1921. Located 200 meters south of the city of Saint-Emilion, this 7-hectare vineyard is cultivated with care. Chateau Moulin Saint Georges is adjacent to Ausone and produces some 25 barrels a year of a rather square and well-built wine that has a great aptitude for aging. This terroir is planted on a clay-limestone soil. The average age of the vines is 26 years and the grape varieties are 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.

Jane Anson: 94/100
Grip and length, grilled campfire smoke, slate texture, nuanced blueberry and raspberry fruits, cold ash and pumice stone. West exposure for the slopes here means cooler temperatures and lower ph, fresh acidities, helps accentuate this oyster shell salinity.

James Suckling: 93-94/100
The tannins provide a powdery and layered sense to this, spreading across the palate. It's full and layered with firm depth and length. Blueberries and crush stones. Four-square. Some limestone with the clay. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc.

Antonio Galloni - Vinous: 90-93/100
The 2023 Moulin Saint-Georges emerges from a small, 7-hectare property in front of Ausone. The richer side of the year comes through in the wine's dark blue/purplish fruit profile, lavender, licorice and spice notes. There's a bit of tannin here, but élevage should help this come together. The Moulin Saint-Georges includes 100% new oak, quite a statement of intent at this level.

Yohan Castaing - Wine Advocate: 90-92/100
The Vauthier family produced a slightly oaky, complex 2023 Moulin St Georges with aromas of vanilla, spices and dark wild berries. Medium to full-bodied, dense and rich with chewy tannins and a taut, chalky texture, it’s perfectly balanced with a fleshy texture and a long, penetrating finish. This blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc will spend 18 months in new oak barrels.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Wine Independent: 90-92/100
A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Moulin Saint-Georges has a deep garnet-purple color. It features fragrant notions of rose bud tea and cinnamon stick, leading to a core of red and black plums, charcoal, and bay leaves. The medium-bodied palate offers refreshing red fruit and baking spice flavors, with a lively line and plush tannins, finishing on an earthy note.
